This one was a blast - the clients wanted something that felt connected to the lake but also super energy-efficient. We incorporated passive solar design with triple-glazed windows and a green roof that literally blooms in summer. The hardest part? Making sure the neighbors didn't block our southern exposure. But we figured it out and the result is pretty spectacular if I say so myself.

Working with a tech company that actually cared about sustainability was refreshing. They didn't just want to tick boxes - they wanted real impact. So we went all-in with rainwater harvesting, solar panels covering 80% of the roof, and natural ventilation that actually works year-round (yes, even in Canadian winters). The atrium became this unexpected gathering spot that nobody planned for but everyone loves.

This project took forever to get approved - like three years of meetings and revisions. But honestly? Worth every frustrating council meeting. We turned what was basically an abandoned industrial plot into this incredible public space with native plantings, stormwater management that doubles as landscape features, and accessible pathways that actually make sense. Watching people use it now makes all those late nights worthwhile.

Heritage work is tricky - you gotta respect what's there while making it livable for today. This 1880s gem was in rough shape when we got it. We kept all the original trim, restored the brick facade by hand (literally each brick), and somehow managed to sneak in modern HVAC without ruining the character. The heritage committee was skeptical at first but they actually gave us an award for it last year.

Affordable housing that doesn't look cheap - that was the challenge here. We went with simple forms but quality materials, maximized natural light with clever window placement, and created private outdoor spaces for each unit. The developer was nervous about the budget but we came in under and the units sold before construction even finished. Sometimes less really is more.
